
Virginia O’Brien Record is a Client Partner in Sterling Martin Associates’ Washington, DC office. She focuses primarily on recruiting leadership for nonprofit organizations, with a sub-specialty in executive-level development professionals. She has strong subject matter expertise in nonprofit governance.
A 35-year veteran of nonprofit management, Virginia served as a development/fundraising executive for three decades at Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and The American Hospital of Paris before joining the staff of The Chasdrew Fund, a Maryland-based family trust where she provided management consulting services to the Fund’s grantees.
Virginia has served on a number of nonprofit boards over the course of her career, including the Newark (NJ) Chapter of The Salvation Army, New Brunswick Development Corporation, the New Brunswick Cultural Center, and the Girl Scouts of Central & Southern New Jersey, among many others. She was an elected official in the Borough of Highland Park, NJ, served for several years as Police Commissioner, and was honored in 1999 by both the Governor of the State of New Jersey and the joint New Jersey State Legislature for her outstanding community service and leadership. During the same year, she was also honored by the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce as a Community Leader of Distinction.
Virginia currently serves as a member of the Board of Visitors of Lyndon State College (VT), the Board of Trustees of Indoor Recreation of Orleans County (VT), a regional community and health center, and the Board of Directors of the Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club where she was named the 2009 Board Member of the Year and was recently elected President of the Board.
Virginia received her BA in French language and literature from Dunbarton College, and she holds a master’s degree in higher education from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. She is a resident of Alexandria, Virginia.
